FEAST OF ST BAKHITA
Let’s End Modern Slavery

Modern Slavery Event
Thursday 8th February 2024 at 10.30 am -12.30 pm being held at the Assumption of Our Lady,
Abbey Road, Torquay, TQ2 5NJ

February 8th 2024 marks the 10th International Day of Prayer and Reflection Against Human Trafficking. This date has been chosen as it is the Feast Day of St Josephine Bakhita. St. Josephine was kidnapped and sold into slavery at the age of 7. After she was freed in Italy years later, she became a nun and has since emerged as a patron for all victims of trafficking.

St. Bakhita’s legacy remains in the work undertaken by the local anti-trafficking groups around the world. People experiencing modern slavery and trafficking should see our churches as places of sanctuary and refuge. We should all be aware of the signs to look out for and how they can help survivors find protection and support.

Join our event at Abbey Road on 8 February to find out more. The event is free and will be followed by a light lunch.
